Q: Will anyone in the world be able to join our list if we put it on the Community Network?
A: Only members can participate in the Community Network. It is an "Intranet," which means it is an Internet/Web entity that is not available to the general public. (See Intranet.)
Within the Intranet, you can select who joins your Initiative by making it closed. When you configure your initiative or edit it using the Edit Basic Information link in the left column of any initiative page, you will see a section saying this:
Is this initiative open or closed? An open initiative can be joined by anyone in the community. A closed discussion can be joined by invitation only.
If you click the option that says Open Initiative, then any Community Network member can join. If you choose Closed Initiative (members only) then only invited members will be able to join. group members may request to join a initiative, but moderators are not obligated to add anyone to a closed list. See How do we make our Initiative private?
We encourage Moderators to keep initiatives open, or to have clearly spelled out criteria for inclusion on closed lists, so that members who would benefit will have access to pertinent information.
